'Bread wars' boost traffic in Causeway Bay

Several bakeries have opened in Causeway Bay, sparking a "bread wars" and driving up foot traffic in the area.

A property agency expects these businesses to reduce the district's store vacancy rate and boost rental prices.

The high demand has even prompted them to implement purchase limits, allowing customers to buy only five items per transaction.

Among the new entrants, 33 Cubread - founded by former TVB (0511) actress Natalie Tong Sze-wing - has garnered significant attention.

Specializing in Japanese-style breads, 33 Cubread occupies a space of around 700 square feet on Percival Street with monthly rent exceeding HK$60,000.

Meanwhile, Tokyo-based TruffleBakery has also launched a new branch on Matheson Street, featuring a 3,000-sq-ft area with a monthly rent of HK$300,000 - about HK$97 per sq ft.

Causeway Bay currently has several popular bread stores including Western-style bakery Bakehouse and Hong Kong-style bakery Hashtag B.
